Welcome to my site!

I will be away from July 5th until July 13th, teaching at the California Coast Music Camp, along with my daughter Molly. If you want to schedule a lesson, check here. and request a spot. I'll return emails and phone calls in the order I get them, after I'm back.

I have finally put up another YouTube video of my kids playing Lady Be Good. So far the original El Cumbanchero video is the one of most watched bluegrass videos ever, with over a million viewings - pretty remarkable for something I put up for friends, family and students to see! Here are some of my favorite comments on that.

What's On My Site

The site is mainly meant to be a resource for my current students in the South San Francisco Bay Area. However, anyone who is learning to play should find something of interest.

Most of the navigation buttons lead to obvious content. Some of things you will find on my website include:

  • Schedule a Lesson lets you schedule a one-time lesson, or reschedule a missed lesson.
  • About Lessons has all the basic information about taking lessons from me including when, where, how much and how to schedule a lesson.
  • Helpful Tips is an entry point for all help for each instrument and a link to the top ten things that you can do to improve your playing. The top ten includes tips for more effective practice.
  • Explore some of the links down the left side to learn more about bluegrass .
