Starting Oct 5th, 6th and 7th

Beginning Bluegrass Banjo (level 1-2) Learn the fundamentals of bluegrass banjo including lead and backup. Using Jack’s own instruction book, we will cover basic Scruggs style playing as well as the necessary rolls and techniques used by all bluegrass players. Emphasis on fundamentals of the right and left hand, as well as learning some bluegrass standards. Tuesdays 7 to 8pm. $170 (includes Jack’s banjo book).

Need a banjo for the class? Gryphon will supply you with a free take-home rental for the duration of the class.

Bluegrass Jam Class (level 3) This class is for the bluegrass player (guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, fiddle, dobro) who wants more experience playing with other people. The repertoire will consist of standard bluegrass songs and fiddle tunes. Students will be coached on jam etiquette, proper balance, backup and fills. Includes lead and harmony singing. Class prerequisite: student must be able to play chords at a steady, moderate tempo and be able to work up solos without help.
